The Neville Staple Band returns to town on Saturday (Feb 11), bringing plenty of heat to an otherwise chilly winter night.
Neville pulls in the crowds whenever and wherever he appears, and has packed out Bedford Corn Exchange three times in the past with more than 600 in attendance.
But this time around, Pad Presents are bringing intimacy to the fore, and are letting him loose at Bedford Esquires for the first time.
Neville Staple is one of the great figureheads of the second wave of British ska that broke across the nation’s music scene in the late 70s.
Know best for his work as the singer / toaster in ska and two tone legends The Specials alongside Terry Hall and Jerry Dammers, Neville Staple was at the centre of perhaps UK ska’s most-loved band - they enjoyed seven consecutive top 10 hits between 1979 and 1981.
Following on from the massive Specials reunion, 2009 - 2012, Neville has since left the fold and released a brand new album to rave reviews.
His solo show features a selection of The Special’s back catalogue including Gangsters, A Message to you Rudy, Monkey Man, Ghost Town and Nightclub, together with tracks from his second chart topping band The Fun Boy Three. He'll rework some original Jamaican ska classics and showcase some brand new original solo material too. It'll be a busy show.
Tickets are £15 and on sale now through www.seetickets.com
Post-show DJ Pete Burridge will be spinning classic vinyl in the bar until late.
