From the rolling hills of the Bluegrass and the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, Kentucky duo The Local Honeys, Montana Hobbs (vocals, guitar and banjo) and Linda Jean Stokley (vocals, guitar and fiddle), are excited to announce further UK dates for early 2020 - and they will be calling in at The Stables!
The duo, who performed a string of UK festivals this summer including Latitude, Summertyne and Underneath The Stars, as well as recently completing a successful headline tour this November, recently released a gospel album called The Local Honeys sing the Gospel, to great acclaim.
The Gospel is a spiritual and spirited concoction of history, folklore and tradition, tucked tightly into songs blanketing the southern Appalachians. The Honeys interpretation and collection of both sacred and secular songs from the American South are not an attempt to witness the glory of religion, nor are they an attempt to poke fun at organised religion or its followers. The glory is in the songs which highlight and honour the music born and cherished in the American Bible Belt. So, like any belt, some wear it tight while others prefer a bit of slack.
Having been the first women to graduate their state university’s degree programme in traditional ‘Hillbilly’ music, The Local Honeys have gone on to win numerous songwriting accolades, including the prestigious Chris Austin Songwriting Award at MerleFest, also awarded to Gillian Welch at the beginning of her career.
The duo have dedicated themselves to the preservation of old music and the creation of new music, and their songwriting often reflects subject matter that little girls ought not talk about. This element played a strong impact in the production and creation of their acclaimed 2015 debut album, Little Girls Actin’ like Men.
The Local Honeys have been taking their socially conscious and environmentally aware Bluegrass across the world and will play The Stables on January 31.
