THE STABLES - THE WEEK IN PREVIEW, FROM GRUMPY'S TO PROG-ROCK...

Forget Fifty Shades of Grey, on Thursday (May 1), The Stables presents the return of the Grumpy Old Women, with their show Fifty Shades of Beige. Original Grumpy Jenny Eclair will be joined by Susie Blake and Kate Robbins for the new show, moaning - and giggling - about old stuff. They mightn't have youth on their side, but these ladies are still capable of pulling - this show is sold-out, so call for returns only. Over on Stage 2, Ivor Novello award-winner Scott Matthews will host. His debut album Passing Stranger picked up huge support and when not playing on his own, he has enjoyed tours alongside certified A-listers including Foo Fighters, Tori Amos and Robert Plant. Scott plays the intimate show in support of his new album, Home Part 1. Lifesigns Lifesigns, above, stop off at the venue on Friday (May 2) and will strike a chord, literally, with fans of melodic, progressive rock. Their debut album hit the racks at the start of 21013, and has since landed in the top spot of the classic rock and prog charts both on these shores and in the US, Canada, Germany, France, Italy and Japan. The line-up is an all-engaging one too: Bassist Jon Poole (Cardiac and one-time Wildheart), joins singer and keyboard-hound John Young, drummer Frosty Beedle and guitarist Niko Tsonev,  making for an all pedigree concoction of players. On Stage 2, Eddi Reader collaborator Boo Hewerdine will be in charge, but tickets are few and far between as we write this. If you manage to get your paws on one, make it along in time to see Hafdis Huld, below, who will support.   Queen Bee promo pic (no text) Motor City Memories present An Evening of Supreme Temptation on Saturday (May 3), with Louis Price presenting The Sound of The Supremes, and the tracks you expect - Stop! In the Name of Love, Baby Love, My Girl and so on. On Sunday (May 4) afternoon, a man who has become something of a regular face around the venue in recent months is back for more. Across six concerts - this is the fourth in the season - Artur Pizarro will perform the complete piano works of the Russian composer. Artur will impress from 3pm, but if you are so inclined you could enjoy Sunday lunch at the venue from 12.15pm  - a vegetarian option is available. Forget slaving over a hot stove, let The Stables take the heat - call 01908 280832 to book your table. In the evening, Martin Carthy and Eliza Carthy will perform material from their current CD of traditional material, Elephant. Martin and Eliza CarthyMartin and Eliza CarthyMartin and Eliza CarthyCalibre is not something to be questioned with this father-daughter duo - Martin has influenced artists including Bob Dylan and Paul Simon, while Eliza is a two-time Mercury Music Prize nominee, with plenty of BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards on the mantelpiece. Rich Hall's date on Monday (May 5) is all sold-out, but Tuesday's (May 6) show by The Furey's and Davey Arthur is still booking in the Jim Marshall Auditorium, and tickets are still available for the Stage 2 date by the Adrian Cox Quartet. On Wednesday (May 7), long-standing Dutch pop-rock mob Focus arrive. Tickets for all available shows can be booked by calling the box office on 01908 280800, or visit www.stables.org
