THIS WEEK AT THE STABLES: CHRIS BARBER, THE MISFITZ, WILL HOGE, SHAKATAK, DOC BROWN & MORE LINE-UP

In 2015, Chris Barber is celebrating his 66th year as a Bandleader.

However you look at it, that's an incredible achievement.

But then Barber is an incredible talent and ambassador for the traditional jazz and blues movement.

Thursday's (September 3) Stables show by The Big Chris Barber Band (below) will feature a wide repertoire of sounds – from New Orleans to Blues to late 1920s Ellington.

From the Bourbon Street Parade to Jubilee Stomp and When the Saints Go Marching In, your feet will be tappety-tap-tapping all night long when they make their welcome return to the Wavendon venue.

The Misfitz are back on The Stables stage on Friday (Sept 4) night, to swell the charity coffers in memory of the band's founder, Charles Francis.

Charles passed away four years ago after a brave battle with cancer, and before falling ill had been an avid fundraiser for charity – with a staggering £50,000 raised as a result of his efforts.

It was his wish that the band continued to make music and raise cash, and this gig is precisely as he would have wanted.

While we are paying tribute to Charles, this is going to be a fun, upbeat concert, with plenty of audience participation and will be a true celebration of everything that Charles has given to the band,” The Misfitz promise.

The MK ensemble will deliver upbeat covers by a decent array of pop and rock suspects – Fleetwood Mac, Deacon Blue, The Killers and Supergrass included, and monies raised from the bash will be split between Willen Hospice and the Brain Tumour Charity.

They want to raise around £6000 from the date, and you can help them on their way.

Tickets are £15. You know what to do.

Grammy nominated Americana country player Will Hoge is up on Stage 2, but tickets for the Nashville-dweller have been sold out for months. If you are ticketless, you've not a hope of sneaking in for this date.  Instead, console yourselves with a copy of the current album, Small Town Dreams.

Remember the Shakatak hit Down on the Street? Last year it celebrated its 30th anniversary. Ouch. Doesn't seem nearly so long ago, does it?

The band of erm, Night Birds, are still playing live and recording in 2015, though, and make their return to these parts on Saturday (Sept 5) night, for those partial to a little jazz-funk.

Her story is as tragic as her music was beautiful, and on Sunday evening (Sept 6), Karen Carpenter is celebrated with the show, Voice of the Heart.

A chance to hear The Carpenters' sterling body of work in the live, with Carole Gordon taking residence at the mic, and the Blues Jeans Band and singers doing the rest.

Doc Brown's (top) name began circulating at the start of the new millennium when he cropped up in Camden, earning his stripes as a battle rapper.

A few years down the line he caught the eye of Mark Ronson, and Doc began working in Ronson's band - the first gig saw him on stage with Daniel Merriweather, former Jamiroquai bassist Stuart Zender, Scottish brash section The Haggis Horns, and the late Amy Winehouse.

He carried on performing with the band for a few years, before stepping out alone.

But then his career took more twists and turns, with success in comedy and drama – he has figured in The Inbetweeners, Miranda and Law and Order, and Ricky Gervais' brilliant series, Derek.

We can't list his many accolades in the here and now, and we don't need to – he arrives at the venue on Tuesday night (Sept 8), with his current show The Weird Way Round cutting loose his unique take on life, love and lyricisim.

It's be an 'l' of a night...

Take one album, two men and too many instruments, and you've got the basis for Wednesday's show (Sept 9), Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells for Two.

MPMG Mike Oldfields Tubular Bells

Two crazy Aussie's present will perform Mike's masterpiece. Alone.

They will be run ragged as they tackle 20 instruments to do 'the job' which usually takes an entire entourage.

If you can't make Wednesday's date, the boys are back next Thursday (September 10) for a second night of bell-isimo sounds.
