Kathryn Roberts and Sean Lakeman are back at The Stables on Thursday night (May 19), the second time since the release of their current, superb album Tomorrow Follows Today.
Described as their 'boldest musical statement to date, the fusion of Roberts voice with Sean's inventive deliveries on the guitar is quite the package, and Tomorrow Follows Today is a brilliant blending of rarely covered traditional songs with confidently written compositions.
Not that it should prove surprising – they've been at it for years now, and have a BBC Radio 2 Folk Award tucked away too; they claimed 2013's Best Duo gong.
G2 Genesis play the Wavendon venue on both Friday and Saturday, but both nights are sold out so we'll move swiftly on, in preference of Friday's (May 20) Stage 2 show by Heg & the Wolf Chorus.
Folk meets dramatic pop here, with dynamic violin and ghostly drums, flamboyant piano playing and a rich wash of vocal harmonies.
Heg's songs draw inspiration from traditional fairy tales and the twisted roots of her own family tree.
What that means for you, the listener, is a journey from Grimm's fantastical forests, across the stormy Atlantic to the black, dangerous coal mines of Illinois and far beyond.
Support is coming from Kent quartet We Are Bandicoot (below).
Shoulder-shrug grooves, drops, rises and hooks galore are promised, as heard in recent single release Limitations.
Frontman Simon says that track explores the 'small minded culture' that is spreading among the young people in Britain, of hatred and prejudice and a lack of desire.
The band released their follow-up last week, so check the gig, and then wrap your ears around current single The Reason.
The Mentulls play Stage 2 on Saturday night (May 21) with prog blues-rock to get stuck into.
'The best album I've heard all year by a country mile,' declared a Classic Rock scribe, having dug into the current album Reflections.
Snowboy & The Latin Section check in on Sunday (May 22).
This show is part of a tour in support of Snowboy's 30th anniversary since his first release. It also coincides with the release of his 16th album New York Afternoon.
Top-drawer Afro-Cuban jazz with a Latin section made up of the best the scene has to offer.
A lively event is expected – The Stables are bringing out their special dancefloot for the occasion. And you thought Sunday's were for taking it easy.
Juan Martin's Flamenco Trio play on Wednesday night (May 25), bringing together fine guitar work and a flamenco programme of music, song and dance direct from Spain, and while they command in the Jim Marshall auditorium, Megson hold court on Stage 2.
They are our second set of Radio 2 Folk Award winners inside a week, and will lay down their own unique brand of folk, with soaring harmonies and driving mandolas.
If you like what you hear, you'll be in luck – a new album is set for a summer release.
