Van Morrison announces Wrest Park summer show

The next huge outdoor show to take place at Wrest Park in Bedfordshire this summer will be the iconic Van Morrison.

Van  will be joined by The Waterboys and Hothouse Flowers on Friday, August 31.

The Heritage Live Concert Series at Wrest Park will take place over the weekend of 31st August – 2nd September and will bring together the best in live music in the most unique of outdoor settings.

One of music’s undisputed true originals, Van Morrison’s matchless songwriting and vocal talents have seen him produce an incredible body of material throughout the course of his career that has seen him travers, and indeed master everything from the British R&B which he originally made his name, to Jazz, Celtic and Soul.

Though also experimenting in these different genres, Van Morrison’s commercial success is well documented – ‘Brown Eyed Girl’, ‘Gloria’, ‘Here Comes The Night’, ‘Jackie Wilson Said’, ‘Bright Side Of The Road, ‘Have I Told You Lately’ – the list goes on.

Born of his Irish Showband instincts, the magic of the live performance has been a consistent feature of Morrison’s career. Over the course of his fifty year career Van Morrison has been recognised with awards and accolades such as a Knighthood, a Brit, an OBE, an Ivor Novello, 6 Grammys, honourary doctorates from Queen’s University Belfast and the University of Ulster, entry into The Rock n Roll Hall of Fame and the French Ordres Des Artes Et Des Lettres, which all attest to the international reach of Van’s musical art.

Van Morrison released his 37th Studio Album ‘Roll with The Punches’ to critical acclaim in 2017.

Special guests for the show at Wrest Park will be The Waterboys. The folk-rock band, formed by Mike Scott in Edinburgh in 1983, are known for their Celtic-tinged hits such as ‘Fisherman’s Blues’ and ‘The Whole of The Moon’.

After a hiatus throughout most of the 1990’s Scott reformed the band in 2000. They continue to perform worldwide, releasing their most recent critically acclaimed album of new material, ‘Out of All This Blue’, last year.

Opening the show will be Hothouse Flowers. The Irish rock group who. since forming in Dublin in 1985, have combined traditional Irish music with soul and rock. Once heralded in the 80’s as ‘the best unsigned band in Europe’ by Rolling Stone, Hothouse Flowers’ success from then has included the release of seven studio albums, two of which were certified Gold in the UK, and most recently released the acclaimed ‘Lets Do This Thing’ in 2016.
