Bradwell Silver Band triumph at regional championship

After an extended period away from the stage because of the pandemic, Bradwell Silver Band returned to spotlight at the weekend, with players performing at the London and Southern Counties Regional Championship.

And they walked away with first place in the third section!

At Sunday's event, fielding a band with one empty seat (owing to a positive LFT) the members took to the stage with all the usual nerves and jitters to perform Gordon Langford's Facets of Glass.

It's a challenging piece, but the band enjoyed learning the intricacies and its facets.

Being awarded top place and given the opportunity to represent the region in Cheltenham later this year, was the icing on the cake.

"I am so proud of every member of the band," said musical director Brian Keech, "We have worked so hard to perform Facets of Glass to the highest standard. To win is amazing, but every band up and down the country deserves plaudits for continuing our wonderful music making after this terrible pandemic.

"As winning Musical Director I was honoured to be presented with the Arthur Copcutt Memorial Trophy," Brian added, "This was even more poignant because as a young player with Bradwell I used to help the Ellesborough band and met Arthur, who was their Conductor. He was a lovely man and a pleasure to know."

In further success for the area, second place went to Olney Brass.

The day prior, Milton Keynes Brass competed in the first section and walked away with a podium third place.

> Bradwell Silver Band has also been invited to perform a concert for the Chelsea Pensioners.
The band will travel to the Royal Hospital of Chelsea on May 15 for the return engagement.
