Fancy a lolly? The animals at Woburn Safari Park chill out as temperatures soar

Temperatures have been sizzling this week, and the animals of Woburn Safari Park have been feeling the heat too...
So keepers at the Bedfordshire Park served up ice lollies to keep them cool.

The endangered Barbary macaques and North American black bears were treated to the fruit lollies, which were made with water, whole fruit pieces and nuts, and then went for a dip in the refreshing water pools in their respective parkland reserves.

“Animal welfare is very important to us at Woburn which is why we constantly monitor the environment of each species to make sure that they are healthy and comfortable,” said Chris Smart, the Reserves Team Leader at the Park.

“Each of the reserves offers plenty of shade and a number of pools for them to bathe and play in.

“When the weather gets hotter we regularly give them ice lollies as treats, freezing some of their favourite foods to help them cool down,” he said.
“They’re always a firm favourite with the animals.”
