GALLERY: WOBURN'S BABY BOOM IS BEAR-ILLIANT!

A mother's work is never done – and certainly not when you have not one, nor two, but three cubs to look after!

These adorable North American black bear cubs have been born at Woburn Safari Park, and while staff knew that a happy event was approaching, they weren't expecting triplets to arrive.

They are the first cubs to be born at the park – the only place in the country where you can see North American black bears - in 18 years.

Four year old Phoenix has been caring for the cubs from inside a large den in an oak tree, and the three were first spotted by keepers when they ventured outside on Easter Sunday morning.

The new arrivals are developing well and have been behaving like typical young babies – sleeping for long periods of time, playing together and suckling,” said Craig Lancaster, acting Head of Carnivores at Woburn Safari Park.

We'll keep an eye out on the cubs for the initial weeks while leaving them alone to bond with mum.”

The babies will remain in a pen with her until they are big enough to meet the other residents of their parkland home; 12-year old dad Xanthos, eight more black bears and four Canadian Timber Wolves.
