Get the feel good factor this new year and rehome some hens in Milton Keynes

Hundreds of hens are hoping to start 2020 in the best way possible – by finding homes as much-loved pets.

Two hundred hens are waiting patiently in their cages, with their bags packed, waiting to be told that they’ve got homes to go to thanks to the work of the British Hen Welfare Trust.

The national charity rehomes hens across the country and will be hoping to find homes for 200 ex-commercial hens in Milton Keynes on Sunday (12 January).

Once they reach 18 months old, these hens are no longer considered commercially viable and are classed as ‘end of lay’ so would be sent to slaughter if it were not for the charity’s lifesaving work.

That’s why the BHWT is keen to hear from any kind-hearted members of the Buckinghamshire public who could collect hens from its rehoming in North Crawley this January.

Sonia Hough, Milton Keynes Co-ordinator, said: “We’re really hoping to get 2020 off to a fantastic start by finding homes for all 200 hens in Milton Keynes. Not only will you get the feelgood factor from knowing you’ve saved lives, but you’ll also be rewarded with flock of a funny, inquisitive, life-enriching feathered friends to enjoy.

“These hens really do deserve their retirements, so if you’ve got a bit of space in your back garden, some time to give and space on your plate for an egg or two you can’t go far wrong by adopting some ex-bats.”
