intu Milton Keynes is launching a new partnership with the MK Food Bank, which begins during the charity’s Big Little Give campaign that starts from Monday, March 25.
The shopping centre will help raise money through ongoing initiatives throughout the year and has set an astonishing target of £42,000 and 3,000 food items.
At any time, shoppers will be able to donate their spare change by spinning coins down the shoots of the vortex machine, located near the much-loved ‘Frog Clock’.
Shoppers are also being encouraged to bring non-perishable food donations to the customer information desk next to Debenhams and Five Guys.
The Food Bank is currently low on tinned items such as vegetables, fruit, meat, spaghetti, rice pudding and soup, as well as dried rice. Each week, all donated food will be collected by volunteers from the Food Bank ready to be distributed to those in crisis.
From Monday 25 March to Friday 5 April, the Food Bank is running its ‘Big Little Give’ campaign where every family in Milton Keynes is encouraged to donate just one item that the Food Bank needs – these can be dropped off at intu Milton Keynes.
Shelley Peppard, general manager of intu Milton Keynes, said: “We are delighted to announce this new partnership with an excellent and very worthwhile local charity. It is important to intu Milton Keynes to be able to give back to the community around us, and we also want to make it easy for our visitors to offer their support to those in need locally.”
The Food Bank relies entirely on donations of food and money from the community, as well as the support of its local volunteers. Families and individuals in need are identified by referral agencies and given vouchers entitling them to food parcels.
Caitlin Hands, Partnerships Manager, from the MK Food Bank, said: “I would like to thank intu MK for promoting our Big Little Give campaign and for wanting to contribute to our cause. It is always inspiring to see so many people of Milton Keynes showing support for the Food Bank, I would like to thank everyone who will be involved. We want to continue supporting those in need in Milton Keynes and your valuable donations will help us to ensure that we are able to continue with our current projects helping in the community”
