MAGICAL MOMENT AS NEW WORLD RECORD IS SET AT AIRKIX MK

A world record setting event took place at Airkix MK yesterday afternoon...and it was just magical.

Under the watchful eye of independent witnesses including a representative from the Magic Circle, magician Martin Rees began his attempt to complete the most amount of magic tricks ever performed in a wind tunnel in three minutes.

Hemel Hempstead based Martin was raising money for the charity Spread a Smile, and used cards, a handkerchief and even a biscuit in his trick-tastic show.

When I began training for this world record attempt to help raise funds for Spread a Smile. I couldn’t have imagined all the incredible support I would receive from people.

Going into the wind tunnel was nerve-wrecking, I was so nervous about making sure I remembered everything I needed to do and staying in the correct position to fly properly.

Martin successfully completed eight magic tricks within three minutes. Witness statements and footage of the new world record will now be sent to Guinness for final validation.

I felt an incredible rush of adrenalin when I realised I had done it. Setting this world record has taken a lot of training and practice but it has been worth every minute. Thank you to all the team at AirKix who have supported me and been a huge help.”

Martin is already eyeing up his next challenge – and will attempt to set the record for the most magic tricks performed on a single skydive when he jumps out of a plane at 12,500 feet in July.

The kind-hearted magician hopes his daring challenges will raise £5,000 for children’s charity Spread a Smile and so far has raised just under £800.

Spread a Smile is a charity which is really close to my heart,” Martin said.

For over a year I’ve been visiting Great Ormond Street, University College Hospital and Royal London Hospital with Spread a Smile to perform magic tricks for the children who are being treated and cared for there. But the real magic is in seeing the children’s reactions and smiles,” he added.

We’re so pleased to have been able to support Martin in his world record attempts and incredibly proud of what he has achieved today,” said Airkix Milton Keynes manager Andy Godwin.

Our wind tunnels reach speeds of 160mph so Martin’s challenge was no mean feat.”
