Some might say that our famous concrete cows were the first moo-vers and shakers to really make their mark in Milton Keynes - certainly they put the new town on the map from the time they were revealed in 1978.
This Saturday (September 3) marks the anniversary of their unveiling - the models are the creation of clever artist Liz Leyh who sculpted them at Stacey Hill Farm which now serves as Milton Keynes Museum.
Liz made them with the help of local schoolchildren, and at their grand unveiling cucumber sandwiches were served!

In their time, the cows have been painted, adorned with seasonal designs, subjected to abduction (!) and when Covid hit, they donned their face masks to show the rest of us how to stay safe.
These black and white wonders have made headlines around the world. Literally.
Today, the original concrete bovines are back at home at Milton Keynes Museum, out to pasture, grazing contentedly in the green space where they prove an udderly alluring exhibit to visitors.
