Milton Keynes-based Starship Technologies announce new partnership

Starship Technologies, the world’s leading provider of autonomous delivery services, has today announced a partnership with Sitting Bucks Volleyball Club, one of the UK’s newest Sitting Volleyball teams.

The delivery robot business is providing sponsorship support to the Thame-based club, enabling the team to be kitted out in brand new training tops throughout this year’s competitions.

To celebrate the partnership, a team of six employees from Starship took part in a friendly training session and match against the Sitting Bucks on Sunday, which unsurprisingly ended 21-19 to the hosts.

The match took place in Milton Keynes, awarded European City of Sport status for 2020 by the European Cities and Capitals of Sport Federation, which champions using sport to improve people’s quality of life.

Milton Keynes is also a home to Starship, with the company having been running its hugely popular delivery service to local neighbourhoods for nearly two years. The autonomous robots deliver groceries and take-aways to local residents across the town.

Daniel Bingley, Coach of the Sitting Bucks, is one of many people who regularly uses Starship’s service.

Daniel previously served with the British Army and is an active Ambassador for the Royal British Legion. He said: “As a wheelchair user, getting my food via Starship has been massively convenient. Life has gotten easier since the robots arrived in Milton Keynes and now they’re sponsoring my team. It has given us a huge boost to get out and compete - we’ve got our sights set on Copenhagen and we're training hard!”

Henry Harris-Burland, VP of Marketing at Starship Technologies, said: “We’re delighted to be supporting the Sitting Bucks. Being an active part of the local community in Milton Keynes and the wider Buckingham area is extremely important to Starship.

"This partnership will see us work closely with Daniel Bingley and the rest of the team at Sitting Bucks as part of our ongoing commitment to better understand the accessibility challenges that wheelchair users encounter in their everyday lives.”

The Sitting Bucks Volleyball club was founded in 2018 by Steve Smith, an established referee on the Sitting Volleyball circuit, with the support and encouragement of Richard Osborne, Head Coach of the UK Invictus Games Sitting Volleyball team.
