Milton Keynes is set to become the fastest growing city in the UK, according to a new report by law firm Irwin Mitchell and the Centre for Economics and Business Research (CEBR).
The study suggests MK’s year-on-year growth, which is judged by the value of goods and services it produces, will be 2.1% by Q4 2020.
In Q4 2018 MK became the fifth fastest growing city and it now looks to take the number one spot by overtaking Reading, Oxford, Cambridge and Ipswich.
Mark Lancaster, the MP for Milton Keynes North, said: “It’s brilliant to see MK is expected to be the fastest growing city in the whole of the UK, but it really should come as no surprise when you see all the success we’re having at the moment.
“MK really is a driver for businesses and a force to be reckoned with when it comes to technology innovation, and just shows what a great place it is to invest in.”
Iain Stewart, the MP for Milton Keynes South, added: “This report shows the underlying strengths of the Milton Keynes economy, and the strong pro-business policies of the Government.
“It is this business growth which creates high quality jobs and creates the wealth to fund the public services we all want to see. Labour’s anti-business policies under Jeremy Corbyn would put that at risk.”
