A £25,000 Liberal Democrat budget amendment has contributed to children and young people in need in Milton Keynes receiving lunches this summer.
By the end of this week, around 8,500 lunch boxes will have been issued to children, along with 1,000 food packs for young people.
The initiative, which started in July, provides families in need with lunches over the summer holiday, and is being delivered through children’s centres.
Councillor Jane Carr, Liberal Democrat spokesperson for Children & Families, and Chair of the Children & Young People Scrutiny Committee, said: “We are thrilled that the money we secured in the 2020/21 budget to tackle child hunger is being used to do exactly that.”
The Newport Pagnell South councillor added: “Children’s wellbeing is our priority, which is why we fought to secure this money in the budget, and also called for the Child Poverty Commission to be created last year.”
