An open mic night hosted by MK Gallery is encouraging Milton Keynes to showcase its creativity, as people from different backgrounds, ages and abilities are welcomed to share their talents.
The latest event took place on International Women’s Day and to celebrate the occasion the theme for the night was #pressforprogress, a call to motivate and unite communities to think, act and be gender inclusive.
The acts on the night included poets, singer/songwriters, spoken word artists and filmmakers.
“Soapbox is a space for creatives of all forms to share and express their talent. With this particular event we wanted to celebrate and support International Women’s Day, so we encouraged performers to share pieces and songs inspired by the theme #pressforprogress, whilst still allowing space for them to deliver their way of celebrating womanhood," said Thara Popoola.
“Milton Keynes is an area full of people of various ages and backgrounds who carry incredible gifts, so I’m glad that we are able to create a much needed platform for these individuals to shine”
