A handcrafted children’s play area has been reinstalled in Bancroft following successful partnership working between Milton Keynes Council and Stantonbury Parish Council.
The renovated facility was made possible following an approved bid to WREN’s FCC Community Action Fund, a not-for-profit business that awards grants for community projects from funds donated by UK waste management company FCC Environment.
The money has been raised from a tax put on each tonne of waste sent to landfill – called the Landfill Communities Fund – promoting the use of environmentally friendly methods of waste disposal.
MKC project manager, Phil Snell said: “This vital facility is going to make a real difference to those who use it, as well as the wider community. We’re extremely grateful to WREN for providing funding - we would not have been able to go ahead without its support.”
The Twisted Wood Adventure play area is located in a wooded valley, and includes a carved entrance leading to several interlinked towers. A ramped path connects the toddler play area with the lower level, complete with accessible roundabout, basket swing, rotating roundabout and seesaw – all constructed by crafts people in the UK.
Cllr Alex Walker, Leader of the MK Conservative group and ward member said: "The renovated park looks fantastic! It’ll become a very well used and much loved park for residents.
"Thank you to Milton Keynes Council and Stantonbury Parish Council for driving this forward and making it a reality."
“It’s wonderful to see something we have funded finally open and ready to make such a difference to families in Bancroft and the surrounding communities,” said Penny Horne, WREN grant manager.
“WREN is always happy to consider grant applications for projects that benefit local communities, and this is a great example of what can be achieved.”
The new park will be officially opened by the Mayor of Milton Keynes Cllr Martin Petchey on Saturday 23 February at 11am.
