Willen Hospice has launched an appeal to help them to care for more people living with life-limiting illnesses in Milton Keynes and surrounding areas.
‘Hearts in our Community’ aims to raise money that can help their specialist community nursing team to support more patients and their families in their own homes - where and when they need it most.
In the face of a rapidly growing population, the charity has calculated that for every one person they support, there are now ten more who need their help.
Chief Executive, Peta Wilkinson said: “We have seen a huge increase in the number of people we support over recent years, and with a growing population, the demand on health care services and the number of people who would like our specialist and compassionate care will continue to grow.
“Willen Hospice is far more than the work we do in our building at Willen Lake. Our work reaches far and deep into the community.
"Our community nursing team, who care for people in their own homes, provide a unique and highly specialised service to patients with complex conditions.
"This includes prescribing appropriate medicines, developing care plans, providing pain management that allows people to live in comfort, and if it is a patient’s wish to die at home, our nurses will support them to make that possible.”
The charity receives around 17 percent of its funding from the NHS, which means they heavily rely on the support of the local community to help them raise the £4.7million they need every year to be able to continue to care for patients and their families, totally free of charge.
The hospice is appealing to the public to make a donation to ensure they can fully support the very heart of the community.
To donate just £5 text ‘SWAN05 £5’ to 70070. Donations can also be made by visiting www.willen-hospice.org.uk/hearts where there are a number of other ways to support the appeal.
