ABIGAIL'S PARTY, 'A GLORIOUSLY FUNNY COMEDY OF MANNERS'

'Cheesy pineapple, Tone?'

If you remember the 70's, the line will be a familiar one - a sterling moment from the pen of Mike Leigh, it figured in Abigail's Party.

The comedy was originally released in 1977, the year of the Queen's Silver Jubilee.

The gloriously funny comedy of manners was a satire on the aspirations and tastes of the new middle classes on Britain in the 1970s.

The pretty perfect piece of work is being given an outing by MK's brilliant theatre company The Play's The Thing this coming week.

Beverly is throwing a party for her neighbours, married couple Tony and Angela, and divorcee, Sue.

So far so good, right?  Except this is one get-together that is about to turn very, very sour.

Down the road, Sue's teenage daughter Abigail is throwing her own party, but it'll be the adults get-together which spirals out of control...

Performances begin on Wednesday (May 13) at Stantonbury Theatre and run through to Saturday (May 16), nightly from 7.30pm.
