Children and young people are being invited to join dance artists from Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures dance company for workshops at Milton Keynes Theatre.
On Saturday February 2, youngsters can take part in a morning or afternoon session – depending on their age – which will explore themes from Matthew Bourne’s legendary production of Swan Lake.
There will be a session from 10am until 11.30am suitable for children aged 9 – 12 years.
A later session will be held from 12 midday until 1.30pm for teenagers aged 13 – 16 years.
Both workshops are open to youngsters of all abilities (no previous dance experience required), and both boys and girls are welcome.
The workshops are being led by two New Adventures dance artists who will guide participants through an exploration of choreographer Sir Matthew Bourne’s unique storytelling style of contemporary dance theatre.
Everyone who takes part will be engaged in fun and creative games and exercises during the workshops. They will also be provided with an opportunity to devise their very own movement motifs inspired by themes and characters from Swan Lake.
When Matthew Bourne’s unconventional dance theatre interpretation of the Tchaikovsky ballet premiered in 1995 it took the dance world by storm, mainly because it replaces the female corps de ballet with a menacing male ensemble.
The production has since collected over thirty international theatre awards, including an Olivier award and three Tony awards. It is returning to Milton Keynes from Tuesday (January 28) refreshed and ready to wow new audiences.
