Travel back to the 80’s as MKAOS present The Wedding Singer at Stantonbury Theatre
The sounds of the 80’s will fill the air at Stantonbury Theatre when Milton Keynes Operatic Society present their musical comedy version of rom-com movie The Wedding Singer, writes Georgina Butler.
From Thursday (June 16) until Saturday (June 18) a cast of vibrant performers will take to the stage to tell the tale of rock-star wannabe Robbie Heart.
New Jersey’s favourite wedding singer, Robbie loves life (even if he still does live in his grandmother’s basement) and is looking forward to marrying his fiancée Linda. Unfortunately she does not feel the same and leaves him stood at the altar.
Broken-hearted, Robbie manages to make every wedding he sings at after his own unhappy experience just as disastrous. Things brighten up for him when he meets Julia, an admiring young waitress, and Robbie falls madly in love.
Still, the course of true love never did run smooth and this is the case for Robbie – Julia is engaged to be married to a Wall Street shark. Unless Robbie can pull of the performance of a decade, the girl of his dreams is going to slip through his fingers and be gone forever.
Set in 1985, the show pays homage to the pop songs of the 80’s, taking audiences back to a time when hair was big, greed was good, collars were up and a wedding singer might just have been the coolest guy in the room!
Leading the talented cast are Peter Corrigan as Robbie and Leah Scott as Julia. Peter has toured professionally with Jesus Christ Superstar and Blood Brothers, while Leah Scott holds an MA in Musical Theatre from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
Tickets can be purchased from the MKAOS website (please note that the show contains some adult content): http://www.dreamsnwishes.co.uk/boxoffice.html
