Milton Keynes Museum is making its own history in 2023 by celebrating its 50th birthday.
To mark the special event, the Museum is throwing open its doors on Saturday, July 15, and it has assembled a feast of fabulous stuff for families to enjoy - all for free!
Re-enactors will take you back to the time of the Romans, and working engines, tractors and vintage cars will be revved up and showing off their gleaming bodywork.
Live music will come from artists including the Wolverton Town Band and the magnificently titled shanty group Sloop Groggy Dogs who will be taking over the bandstand.
There will be cooking demonstrations in the cottage, and an opportunity to try your hand at medieval pottery making. Perhaps you'll want to practice your putt abilities by playing mini golf, and you'll need to be steady of hand and ready with speed to triumph in the egg and spoon race!
Elsewhere around the site, explore the Country Market and enjoy the highs and lows of the bouncy inflatables. Kids of all ages can get their faces painted, and if you feel like dressing for the occasion, the Museum will be hosting a fancy dress competition, naturally with '50th birthday' as the theme. All ages can partake.

If you want to wet your whistle to celebrate the Museum's special day, you'll have no shortage of opportunity – a Pimms and Prosecco bar will fizz things up, and a selection of beers and wines will be for sale so that you can raise a glass throughout the day.
“If you enjoyed our Platinum Jubilee event last summer, you will love this event even more!” promised Museum director Bill Griffiths, “It's a special milestone and not just for us, but for you too – after all, this is the Museum for all of Milton Keynes.
“We will also be taking the opportunity to share our exciting plans for the future, by revealing elements of our new gallery which we hope you will love every bit as much as we do.
“This is your Museum, and we can't wait to share what promises to be a fabulous day with you as we take a fond look back at our past, and get excited about our future.”
On top of all the celebratory events you will be able to enjoy all of the many Museum attractions; from the Street of Shops to the Hall of Transport and the Communication Gallery.
Pack a picnic, be tempted by sweet and savoury treats in the Granary Tea Room or grab something nice from one of the visiting food outlets and enjoy the day.
The Museum will be open 10.30am – 4.30pm and entry is free.
