Jazz performer Viviana Zarbo brings her 2019 Edinburgh Fringe hit show, I Am Not Marilyn, which presents a personal view of the life and music of Marilyn Monroe, to The Stables, Wavendon, on Saturday (March 19).
As well as being one of the world’s most famous actresses of her era, Monroe made an often overlooked contribution to the golden age of swing and jazz; her breathy renditions of songs like My Heart Belongs To Daddy, I Am Through With Love and Diamonds Are A Girl’s Best Friend remain unique and instantly recognisable.

In her show I Am Not Marilyn, Viviana Zarbo, who has always been inspired and fascinated by Monroe, reinterprets her songs, including masterpieces composed by the likes of Cole Porter and Irving Berlin, as well as less well-known songs recorded by Monroe.
Far from impersonating her, Viviana delivers them in a deeply personal way, drawing comparisons between her own life and that of the iconic actress, but also pointing out their differences.
In addition, she looks at the story of the woman behind the iconic image and asks whether any of us know who Marilyn Monroe really was.
