Milton Keynes Museum announces the return of its popular History Festival

There are troubling times ahead at Milton Keynes Museum, but it's all for your entertainment!

This May, the Museum is inviting visitors to get even closer to the past, with the return of its popular History Festival – and the Vikings are making their long-overdue return, setting up camp and giving battle demonstrations. It's not for the faint-hearted!
The living history weekend – running across the weekend of May 7 & 8 – will also include Roman traders demonstrating their wares and selling goods.

Twelfth century reenactors are making tracks to the Wolverton Museum, and you'll be able to step back to the dark days of the Medieval period.

New for 2022 is MK Museum's 1940's re-enactment group who will be setting up camp in the Museum garden to show what life was like during the difficult decade. The government was suggesting that everyone should take a holiday, but with petrol rationing, trains utilised by troops and everyone's pockets feeling the pinch from the wartime devastation, people were urged to 'holiday at home.'Sounds not unlike recent times!

The History Festival is a colourful, lively, engaging weekend taking you through the centuries and letting you get closer to our ancestors who were living, working, fighting and playing during key periods in this area's history.“

Our re-enactment events are always calendar highlights, and with the pandemic having caused its cancellation in 2020 and 2021 we are thrilled to be able to bring the History Weekend back this year,” said Museum director Bill Griffiths, “It's a brilliant event, and it's not every day you get to interact with our ancestors!“

Of course the rest of the Museum attractions will be open too, so come along and support your local, friendly Museum – I'll see to it that the Vikings are on their best behaviour!”

Standard admission prices apply – which will also give you FREE entry for the following 12 months; adults £12, child £8, retired & unwaged £10.A family ticket (admitting two adults and up to four children) is £36.
