Milton Keynes’ first ever Rock’n Roll choir with instruments will launch next month.
Organiser Andy Gilbert said: "I play guitar, and would welcome anyone who wants to sing or play something.
"The music is not strictly rock’n roll; it will also include melodic up-beat songs from the 60s such as California Dreaming, Mister Postman, Runaround Sue, That’ll be The Day etc.
"You don’t have to be an experienced singer, complete beginners are welcome. We’ll need lots of backing singers as well as leaders taking solos to get the full effect of a 60s harmony group.
"We won’t be using sheet music; it will be completely by ear."
In the past Andy has organised choirs for the past three Sun and Moon Festivals, and this venture is not a commercial one - if participants can pop a couple of quid into the donation box, that'll be most welcome, and will go toward the hire oh the hall.
Eventually, Andy hopes that the choir will perform at charity concerts.
"We won’t be getting rich or famous any time soon, but singing in a choir is incredibly rewarding," Andy added, "You don’t have to know anything about music theory. As long as you can count to four, we’ll all start at the same time!"
Rehearsals will be on Mondays, starting May 20, 8-9.30 at Gt. Linford Parish Council Office (they have a large meeting room), 2 St. Ledger Drive, MK14 5HA.
It’s in Gt. Linford Local Centre and a free car park is situated alongside. Once a month the council use it for a meeting. We’ll reschedule that week as the council would have difficulty deciding policy to the tune of Shake, Rattle and Roll. They might end up dancing and forget to charge council tax!
