Troubling times are ahead at Milton Keynes Museum, but it's all for your entertainment!
The museum prides itself on being a hands-on environment, but this weekend visitors will be able to get even closer to the past, with the return of the popular History Festival.
The living history weekend will include Roman traders demonstrating their wares and selling goods, and a Roman artist who will be at work using the traditional methods employed in times past.
Visitors will be able to try archery, as practised in Medieval times, but will need to take care on site – because the Vikings will be in battle too!
Twelfth century historical re-enactment group Chanz Des Reis will be covering civilian, military and religious life during the Middle Ages, while a Civil War re-enactment group will recreate a dark period in the past that divided not just communities, but families...
And after checking in with our Tudor surgeon you'll thank your lucky stars that medicine has progressed. If you are a bit too fragile for that, enjoy Lucy the Tudor's hands-on display instead.
Unlike the surgeon's working space, this will be a leech-free zone!
The museum will also be welcoming the British Redcoats, the Queen's Regiment 1714, to show their manoeuvres.
It's a colourful, lively, engaging weekend taking you through the centuries and letting you get closer to our ancestors who were living, working, fighting and playing during key periods in this area's history.
Museum director Bill Griffiths says the fabulous family-friendly weekend is a taster of what can be expected when the museum expansion completes in 2018.
“This area has played a significant role throughout many eras of history and we are looking forward to telling those stories in really exciting ways,” he said.
Standard admission prices apply – which will also give you FREE entry for the following 12 months when Gift Aid is given; adults £9, child £6, retired & unwaged £7.
A family ticket (admitting two adults and up to four children) is £26.
