Milton Keynes Gallery celebrates shortlisting for national award

MK Gallery’s Art and Us, a programme for families with children with complex needs, has been shortlisted in the category of Best Family Event in the Fantastic For Families 2019 Awards.

The awards celebrate family-led arts and cultural organisations across the UK with the awards ceremony taking place on 11 February in Liverpool.

Held every Sunday and funded by the Paul Hamlyn Foundation and Milton Keynes Community Foundation, Art and Us has provided stimulating, creative and fun art activities for families with children over 5 with complex needs since it launched in May 2018.

Taking place at the Events Space at MK Gallery, each 90 minute session gives families the opportunity to work directly with one of the Gallery’s Associate Artists to explore their creative interests.

Bethany Mitchell, curator of inclusion at MK Gallery, runs the weekly programme.

She said: “Art & Us has given family members an opportunity to be able to enjoy spending time together in an environment which is creative, accessible, fun and understanding of everyone’s needs.

"It’s been wonderful to hear some of the fantastic feedback from families and to have seen the difference the programme has made for many.”

Anthony Spira, director at MK Gallery added: “It’s been a real privilege for MK Gallery to have been able to launch and run Art and Us in collaboration with our friends at Project Art Works.

"The shortlisting recognises the work put in by our learning team to deliver such engaging and creative programmes for local families. I’d like to thank the funders of the programme, the Paul Hamlyn Foundation and the MK Community Foundation for their incredible support in making the programme a reality.”
