Competition: DVDs of hit ITV series Brief Encounters up for grabs

It might be named after pants, but Brief Encounters premiered to rave reviews on ITV in July, and this week the first series has been issued on DVD and digital download.

The Telegraph awarded it four stars, saying “Frank, Funny and Full of Heart,” while The Express calling it a “resounding hit."

The series launched with a consolidated audience of 5.9m resulting in the comedy drama comfortably winning the slot.

The frank, fresh and funny six-part drama starred Penelope Wilton, Sophie Rundle, Angela Griffin and Sharon Rooney as four women striving to find happiness and fulfilment.

With a touch of glamour, gutsy humour and an overwhelming desire to improve their lot in life, the four women in early '80s Sheffield juggle the pressures of family, husbands and making ends meet, striving for happiness and fulfilment.

A chance meeting between Steph (Sophie Rundle, Peaky Blinders) and Nita (Angela Griffin Lewis) kick starts a transformation as they grasp the opportunity to become Ann Summers party organisers.

Pauline (Penelope Wilton, Downton Abbey), for whom Steph is a cleaner, agrees to host a party, inviting amongst others the bubbly and confident Dawn (Sharon Rooney, My Mad Fat Diary).

Via exotic lingerie the four unlikely friends blossom, gaining confidence and independence as their ambition is ignited.
If you want to settle back with an engaging, warm new boxset, Brief Encounters is a winner, and Total MK has copies up for grabs in this week's competition.
