FROM CARMEN TO THE CAR MAN WITH NEW ADVENTURES, ON SCREEN AT CINEWORLD MK

A sensational event at Milton Keynes Cineworld will see one of internationally acclaimed choreographer Matthew Bourne’s thrilling productions dance onto the big screen next Tuesday (March 1), writes Georgina Butler.

Bourne’s company New Adventures blows us away with its annual visits to Milton Keynes Theatre so audiences are in for a tantalising terpsichorean treat with the upcoming special screening of The Car Man.

Loosely based on Bizet’s popular opera Carmen (which has one of the most instantly-recognisable scores in classical music), The Car Man sees the familiar 19th Century Spanish cigarette factory become a greasy garage-diner in 1960s America. Here, the dreams and passions of a small-town are shattered by the arrival of a handsome stranger.

The performance was filmed live at Sadler’s Wells Theatre, London, in August 2015 and stars an outstanding cast of dancers who have been praised for the power and magnetism of their performances.

Zizi Strallen dances in the recorded performance as ‘Lana’, one of the women seduced by ‘Luca, The Car Man’. Currently topping the bill in the UK tour of Mary Poppins, Strallen received a National Dance Award for Outstanding Female Performance (modern) for her role as ‘Lana’ in The Car Man.

Chris Trenfield takes the title role of ‘Luca, The Car Man’, while fellow New Adventures favourites  Kate Lyons, Dominic North and Alan Vincent feature as central characters who are driven into an unstoppable spiral of greed, lust, betrayal and revenge as a result of a drifter’s unsettling impact on a small town in America.

Lez Brotherston’s epic design, Chris Davey’s evocative lighting and, of course, Matthew Bourne’s vivid storytelling make for a powerful production. Dance aficionados and movie buffs alike will find plenty to marvel at in this fun and feisty show.

Milton Keynes Cineworld will screen Matthew Bourne’s The Car Man on Tuesday March 1 2016.
