In Review: Marriage Story is 'a stunning, raw slice of life'

Marriage Story (2019)

Comedy

Director: Noah Baumbach. 2hr 17mins/127mins. (15)

Rating: 5/5 -  Excellent film/genius/a classic movie

Synopsis
Theatre director Charlie (Adam Driver) and actress Nicole (Scarlett Johansson) are married, live in New York and have a young son. They love, respect and care about each other. They are staging an ambitious and critically well-received production.

They are also about the divorce.

The film follows their relationship as it is slowly taken apart and reformed anew by divorce, friends and family.

Review by @Reelreviewer

This year's big movie awards have some disparate productions to choose from.

Let's take Best Actor at the BAFTA's and the Oscars...Adam Drive or Joaquin Phoenix.

The superficially nice against the superficially nasty. Who should win?

It will probably (perhaps then, deservedly) be Phoenix for Joker, but spare a thought for a less nihilistic and far more identifiable performance from Driver.

Watch the scene in in this film where he and Scarlet Joahansson (also impeccable as the wife he is divorcing) have a slanging match and, after uttering a slew of viciousness, he drops to his knees wracked with tears and apologies.

This is a stunning, raw slice of life that has deservedly earned not just awards but international attention.
