4/5 - Very good lots to enjoy

Synopsis

Buster Moon (Matthew McConaughey) is a Koala who owns a beautiful theatre. Trouble is, every show he puts on is a failure and now he faces serious financial problems as the bank threaten to repossess it, unless he pay all of the money he owes. In a moment of inspiration, he decides to stage a singing competition with the a $1,000 prize for the winner. Although he doesn't have $1,000. And his secretary (Garth Jennings) mistakenly sets the prize fun on the promotional material as $100,000.
Review, by Jason Day

My mother and I are yin and yang where cinema visits are concerned - she having never been in 30 years; me going three or four times each week. But, as a treat, she accompanied me to the local multiplex to see this latest animated offering (for once, not from Disney or subsidiaries).

Given my usual reticence about animated film and her love of TV talent show X Factor, the review was initially planned as a voxpop, with one us loathing and one of us loving this 'putting on a show to save a theatre' yarn.

Surprise, surprise then that we both agreed on it: this is an enjoyable, funny, well-written and acutely observed film, with some excellent vocal acting and singing about some very engaging characters. It is entertaining for children and adults alike.

Now, given we agree on something, that's a ringing endorsement indeed. For more from us both, read the full review here
