New book opens up Thornborough’s cricketing history

Two generations of former players from Thornborough Cricket Club have teamed up to produce a book about the history of the village club.

Brian Goodger, whose association with the club goes right back to the early 1950s through to the early 1990s and his nephew Simon Goodger, a young supporter and then player from the 1970s through to the early 2000s, are the driving forces behind the project.

Titled ‘Cricket As It Should Be Played: An Anecdotal History of Thornborough Cricket Club’ it features recollections and stories about the club from its earliest recorded days through to the present day.

All cricket lovers will be able to relate to the humorous stories of dubious umpiring decisions and funny and memorable incidents down the years, and those interested in the history of a small rural community starting to find its feet in the modern world in the 1960s and 1970s, will find the book just as engaging.

It contains some unique and wonderful photos of teams throughout the era and thoughtful memories of those great players and supporters who are sadly no longer with us.
All funds from the paperback book, priced at £10, are pledged to go to support an initiative that Thornborough Cricket Club now run for youngsters, AllStars and Dynamos.

A great way to encourage children from ages 5-13 to have fun playing sport and get involved in cricket.
