REVIEW: 'LONDON HAS FALLEN' AT CINEWORLD MK

London Has Fallen

Director: Babak Najafi.

4stars - Very good lots to enjoy

Synopsis

Several heads of state travel to London to attend the funeral of the incumbent British Prime Minister.

Unbeknownst to the intelligence services, a number of terrorists (led by Alon Moni Aboutboul) are amongst the British security and police, intent on killing the dignitaries, in retaliation for the earlier killing of Aboutbsoul’s daughter during her wedding.

Ace Secret Service agent Gerard Butler is quick on the draw when the American President (Aaron Eckhart) is attacked, taking into London to keep him safe.

But the terrorists will stop at nothing to claim the leader of the free world as they want to assassinate him online.

Review, by Jason Day

An American blockbuster with a title like this can instantly get any warm-blooded Brit hot under the collar, especially when the plot involves a Secret Service Agent as the hero.

You know the sort of film, all jaw-jutting, teeth-gnashing, jingoistic 'America saves the world' clap-trap, all wrapped up in a cosy star spangled banner.

Thankfully, London Has Fallen manages to avoid such pit-falls which can easily alienate an international audience by focusing on one man's mission to save his boss, rather than poor, misbegotten ole Blighty.

Not that London doesn't suffer. In a series of impressively mounted set-pieces, Westminster Abbey and the Houses of Parliament are rocked to their foundations, but grim-faced agent Butler valiantly sticks to his single objective.

Director Najafi and his unit teams deserve the plaudits for delivering a bang-on target action film which never lets up for its rather brief running time (99 minutes) in this efficient, well-paced piece that delivers the goods for the popcorn crowd.
