What's happening at Milton Keynes Lit Fest - page by page

The third Milton Keynes Lit Fest - set up to promote and celebrate all things literary, bookish or wordy - is fast approaching.

From Wednesday 18th to Sunday 22nd September, MK Gallery in CMK will again play host to a massive range of local and national writing talent.
MK Lit Fest 2019 builds on last year’s hugely successful festival with a diverse array of writers and performers.

The Box Office is now open for…

Architectural historian and BBC presenter Dan Cruickshank (pictured) will discuss his recent book, Architecture: A History in 100 Buildings, journeys through time and place from the ancient Egyptian pyramids to the skyscrapers of Manhattan.

Former John Peel favourite Attila the Stockbroker will be performing from his new collection and from his autobiography.

And there will be a few of his songs, which he will accompany on mandola, crumhorn, recorder and sausage bassoon.

Kassia St Clair will be in conversion about her amazing Sunday Times History Book of the Year 2018 and Radio 4 Book of the Week, The Golden Thread

Ex SAS corporal Chris Ryan, who was part of Bravo Two Zero in the 1991 Gulf War will talk about writing thrillers to tell the stories that the Official Secrets Act stops him putting into his non-fiction.

12-year-old Labrador Ludo, with co-writer Simon Garfield, will chew the fat together over Ludo’s My Life as a Dog, the first ever book about what really matters to a dog.

Not to forget historian Sir Dermot Turing, blogger Jools Walker (aka Lady Vélo), poets Mary Jean Chan and Luke Kennard, short story writers Chris Power and Lisa Blower, novelists Preti Taneja and Sam Byers, journalists Paul Mason and Carrie Gracie, cookery writer Jack Monroe, and many more.
This year there are also writers’ workshops on Screenwriting Memoir Writing, Editing, and Pitching to Agents and Publishers, and a tour of IngramSpark’s self-publishing and printing operation in Kiln Farm.

Tickets are on sale now here. Most tickets are only £5 or £10 – or you can get a day-ticket for the Saturday or Sunday for up to eight events for £30.

With help from a grant from MK Community Foundation, the festival can also offer free tickets to 16-25 year-olds for some events – click here for details.
