COMPETITION & ON TRACK: DON MCLEAN ANSWERS TOTAL MK'S QUESTIONS

(scroll down for competition) Don McLean is the man behind legendary material including classics American Pie and Vincent (Starry Starry Night). Since he first hit the charts more than 40 years ago, his music has remained a staple – and Don has racked up more than 40 gold and platinum albums worldwide. In 2004, he was inducted into the Songwriters' Hall of Fame, and his material has been covered by artists too numerous to list, but including Elvis Presley, Shirley Bassey and George Michael. Pop Queen Madonna hit the top spot with her version of American Pie, in 2000. Tomorrow, (Oct 27), Wienerworld will re-release a classic 1991 concert with Don, filmed at the historic Free Trade Hall in Manchester. The audio from the show has never been released, making the double CD a must-have for fans. Originally out on VHS, this is also the first time fans will be able to get their hands on the re-mastered show in DVD format. Speaking with Total MK, Don said: “On my tour of the UK in 2010, I stayed at a lovely hotel in Manchester. This hotel was old in the back and modern in the front and the doors looked vaguely familiar. When I asked the attractive lady at the desk about it, she said the hotel used to be The Free trade Hall,” he recalled. So there I was sleeping in the concert hall that I had performed in all those years ago.Things have changed and things will change at an even faster pace, bu the music doesn't change.Thank God that's the one thing we can hold on to...I hope you enjoy this.”   slide-2b   The song that first awakened your musical senses Heartbreak Hotel – Elvis Presley Physical or digital – how do you take your music?
