HALF TERM: EVENTS APLENTY AT MK GALLERY

You want to keep the children occupied this Half Term, and plonking them in front of the small screen isn't the way to do it. If you seek, interesting, interactive, creative ways to entertain your little 'uns, MK Gallery’s art workshop sessions are perfect.

Activities include leaf printing for under 5s, dancing like puppets on invisible strings for over 5s, and paper-folding and fan-making for families with over 7s.

All sessions are free but places limited, so pre-booking is essential.

The week’s fun begins on Tuesday, (May 26) at the regular Tuesday Under 5s Start the Art session running from 11am-12noon. Inspired by MK Gallery’s current Ellen Altfest painting exhibition - which includes highly detailed still life paintings of trees and plants - children will take a close look at nature and try out some print-making using leaves and other natural materials.

On Friday (May 29) from 10am-12noon (and repeated 2-4pm), families with over 7s can join the Collaborate Holiday workshops. Collaborate 2015 artist in residence Anna Sikorska partners with artist Sue Mayo on a fan-mail theme, inviting participants to use paper, folds, wishes and memories to help create a temporary installation and leave with beautiful fans.

On Saturday (May 30) the gallery’s regular Mini Makers session from 1-3pm for over 5s is hosted by Parlor Dance (pictured), who will encourage children to become human puppets led by invisible string, exploring rhythm, tempo and direction in the process.
