INTERVIEW: Hacktivist founder prepares for final Milton Keynes show

A few weeks back, fans of grime metal leaders Hacktivist were rocked when Timfy James, founding member of the quintet announced he was quitting the band.

“I’ve spent the last seven years going around the world, and we have left our mark,” the guitarist told Sammy Jones, “But it is hard going away for months at a time.
“I’m stepping out the way for new blood to come through,” he said modestly.

“All I have done for years now is eat, sleep, record, tour and play,” and while he is grateful for the amazing opportunities it has afforded, Timfy is now looking to new horizons and new music-making.

Details of a new venture will be shared imminently, and he’ll be keeping busy overseeing Milton Keynes recording and rehearsal hub, Old School Studios.

He is also considering nurturing new talent.

Timfy might be bidding the band farewell, but he still has every belief in them.
“I haven’t lost faith at all,” he says, resolutely.

“I know they will carry on killing it and I have every confidence they will continue to inspire and push the boundaries of modern music for many more years to come.”

But Timfy isn’t quite done with Hacktivist yet.
The successful Milton Keynes exports, who have enjoyed tours with Enter Shikari and Korn, still have a few more dates to honour with their guitarist, including Camden Rocks on June 2.

Milton Keynes fans will get a chance to give Timfy a send-off when the band plays Unit 9 in Wolverton on May 19.
Tickets are shifting at speed, as you would expect.
“It’ll be an emotional one,” Timfy admits.

Hacktivist bassist Josh Gurner added: “We’re sad Timfy’s time with Hacktivist has come to an end, but we wish him the best of luck with his future plans.
“We want to thank him profusely for the blood, sweat and tears he has put into the band.

“Timfy has been a driving force in defining the Hacktivist sound, but his departure brings with it the dawn of new ideas and forward thinking.
“None of this year’s shows will be cancelled, and you will be hearing from us soon with fresh new music,” he promised.
