ON TRACK: AHEAD OF THEIR CRAUFURD ARMS DATE, BEASTS ANSWER OUR QUESTIONS

London-based trio Beasts released their new single, My Girl is a Serpent on Monday.

It's a slap of beastly brilliance, as it happens.

Since forming in the latter part of 2013, the band have let their sounds do the talking, and talk has been sweet – last year Zane Lowe made the band his 'next hype' and they did the business on the festival circuit.

Tomorrow (May 29), the Beasts get busy in Milton Keynes, joining TotalMK favourites Black Spiders at their long-awaited return to The Craufurd Arms.

It has all the hallmarks of a great night in waiting.

Ahead of the show, Beastly boy Joe went on Track with Total MK...

The song that first awakened your musical senses

My Bloody Valentine – Only Shallow

Physical or digital – how do you take your music?

I take it both ways. I mostly buy vinyl and digital

The first time you thought 'Music – this is the job for me'

I started busking at the age of 13. You could say the coin dropped the moment I unpacked my crappy acoustic and started blasting out Elliott Smith covers

Your best on stage memory...

I have a terrible memory in general but one that does stand out is coming on to a filled tent and cheering crowd at Reading Festival last year

And the worst gig you've ever done

Ha ha! How long can we make this article? Plenty starting out, but I learnt early on just to brush them off and go on to the next show without letting it affect me too much

What made you take up the guitar

Not sure, I think it was something I always wanted to pick up. There's plenty of video tapes of me at four years old attempting to strum and sing along to Oasis on my Dad's acoustic in the kitchen half naked.

The first song I ever really learnt was Red Hot Chilli Peppers – Under the Bridge. My brother James showed me that one

Which one song by another artist do you wish you had written?

Moonage Daydream – David Bowie

And one - by yourself – which holds special significance

I'm extremely proud of how our single has turned out. It was one of the best recording experiences we've had as a band.

If you could step into the shoes of another musician, living or dead, who would it be and what would you do?

Jeff Buckley. Not go swimming. Ever.

And any genre of music you simply can't stand?

Faux Folk. Looking at you, Mumford and Sons

And finally, what can we expect from The Craufurd Arms date?

Very loud, very sweaty. Bring ear plugs and a swim suit.
