ON TRACK: LUCY ROSE TACKLES OUR QUESTIONS

Singer-songwriter Lucy Rose returned with her second album in July, and Work It Out entered a whole new sonic space for the Warwickshire creative.

This record, it's hopefully going to sort a few things out,” she said at the time.

Who am I. What I do. It's direct. I love it.”

Lucy plays Northampton's Roadmender on Tuesday (Nov 10).

She went On Track with Total MK, sharing the music and the artists that move her...

The song that first awakened your musical senses Motel Blues - Loudon Wainwright III It was the first song I heard which had true, real honest lyrics that really took me by surprise.

They are so deeply personal and brave in so many ways.

Physical or digital - how do you take your music? Vinyl, vinyl, vinyl.

The first time you thought 'Music - this is the job for me' I still don't think of it as a job, so I haven't had that moment yet.

I still feel unbelievably lucky to be able to make and play music as a living.

Your best on stage memory... Glastonbury 2014 playing on The Other Stage, a moment I will never forget.

And the worst gig you've ever done Ah wow, that's hard, we've had a few ropey gigs, but we've always had a good time.

I wouldn't want to name and shame any places

What made you take up the guitar and piano My parents really wanted me and my sisters to be able to play piano so we were lucky enough to have piano lessons from a young age, but after grade 3 I stopped.

I felt like I wasn't good at the theory part of music, the scales and reciting pieces of music.

I then saved up for a guitar as I wanted to play another instrument and taught myself in my bedroom.

It took me a long time until I was good enough to play in front of anyone.

Which one song by another artist do you wish you had written Oh wow so so many, but probably A Case Of You - Joni Mitchell.

Like many musicians out there, that song really got to me and made me understand the beauty of great songwriting.

And one - by yourself  - which holds special significance For now, Shiver.

If you could step into the shoes of another musician, living or dead, who would it be and what would you do? Carole King and I'd try and learn as much as I could about writing music on the piano, and lyrics, and just learn everything I could about songwriting.

Are there any current musical influences you might look to Tonnes - Tobias Jesso Jr, Bombay Bicycle Club, The War On Drugs, Beck, Angel Olsen, I guess any musician that is nowadays making brave music.

And any genre of music that you simply can't stand? I love Bob Marley, but I'm not sure if I like reggae.

You offer a refreshing line in videos that are really interesting.  Where do the ideas come from, and what makes you think 'Yep that will work' when presented with a 'suit' of dog biscuits, or chips, for example?! Ha, I have no idea. When it comes to videos I just want to make something brave, interesting and hopefully something that hasn't been done before.

The food suits were good fun.

Finally, for those not yet acquainted, plug the new album.  What can be expect from Work It Out Well, 13 diary entries, songs that are deeply personal to me, a broad variety of music, light and shade and hopefully something that makes you feel something.
