This week at The Stables: With Dougie MacLean, Ultimate Bowie, Clem Curtis, Robben Ford & Eve Selis

You'll perhaps know him for his song Caledonia, or maybe for his work on the soundtrack for Last of the Mohicans. That theme song was another of his compositions.

Oh, and he was a feature at the closing ceremony of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow – a performance that was viewed by more than a billion people worldwide!
His material has been covered by artists too numerous to mention in full, but including Paolo Nutini, Amy MacDonald, Cara Dillon and Ronan Keating.
The Wall Street Journal makes short work of summing up Mr MacLean; 'A musical hero,' they said.
Dougie will be live in the Jim Marshall auditorium from 8pm.

It's hardly surprising, given the desperately sad news earlier this year, but there is only limited availability to see Ultimate Bowie at the venue on Friday night (July 8) with Ed Blaney leading you through David's  chart-bothering action, and sounds and colour that proved an inspiration for millions of fans and fellow creatives.

Clem Curtis, the former frontman with The Foundations, returns on Saturday (July 9).
If we had pots of cash, we'd bet every last penny on him belting out a rendition of Build Me Up Buttercup before leaving the stage.

There is a Rock Experience Concert for you on Sunday (July 10) showcasing those who have taken part in this year's Rock Experience course – five weeks of workshops to develop their techniques and to rehearse material for this set. A slightly earlier start time for this one, with doors at 7.30pm.

The diary is all clear on Monday night, but Robben Ford will be seeing you on Tuesday night (July 12).
He began in 1974, joining Tom Scott & the LA Express before touring with Joni Mitchell.
Work followed on George Harrison's Dark Horse tour and in the 1980s he joined Miles Davis' group, bringing his signature approach, based on the axis of blues, jazz, pop and rock, with him.
Since leaving that band Ford has worked mainly on his own deliveries, and his new album, Into the Sun shows where he's at in the here and now.
There's no shortage of material for Robben to choose from, but let's hope for a decent amount of newbie numbers make it into the set.

Eve Selis arrives on Wednesday night (July 13) with new material of her own to tickle your musical fancy with.
Her ninth album See Me With Your Heart is a collection of tracks 'about her experiences of physical, emotional and spiritual healing.'
In 2014, a rollerblading accident left Eva in need of six months of rehabilitation.
She used the time wisely though – as a time for cleaning up, growing up and stepping up.
“One positive thing that my injury did for me was to force me to slow down and be more present in my life,” Eve said.

“Unconditional love is a concept that runs throughout the songs on this CD, with unconditional love of myself being the hardest to accept,” she said.
“I had to face the wounds without flinching and learn to celebrate the scars we should rejoice. It means we've healed, and that ultimately, 'love has the final say.'”
Those in the know say this new album has redefined who she is as a songwriter and an artist – and the best way to hear them is in the live. Engage with Eve from 8pm on Wednesday.
