Blackened Sun Brewery's plan to support the wider community in Milton Keynes

An independent brewery in Milton Keynes is appealing for beer lovers to back its crowdfunder campaign to open a taproom in the city.

Blackened Sun needs to raise £6,000 by June 23.

“It means that people can will be able to see where their drink comes from, and understand the process behind it, said Gary Morse, who runs the venture with wife, Sharon.

If the crowdfunder is successful and meets its target, Blackened Sun will open the first independent taproom in the area - and it will be good news for the wider community as much as it will be for beer aficionados.

The taproom, in Stacey Bushes, will welcome people to sup on site four days a week, and every Monday to Wednesday, the doors will be opened to charities.

“When the taproom isn’t open to the public we will offer the space to community events and registered charities as a meeting point.
"We hosted an event that benefited MK Night Shelter earlier this year, and even our used hops go to charity,” Gary added.

"They are utilised by Branch-Out MK, which provides social and therapeutic horticulture for adults with learning difficulties.
"The hops are an excellent environmentally friendly source of fertiliser for growing sustainable flowers."

“We believe good business is about giving back to the community too," Gary added.
