Learning disabilities and dementia memory walk for cafe in Milton Keynes

Last Sunday, the local community, volunteers and fundraisers gathered together to walk around Lodge Lake in Milton Keynes for national charity MacIntyre’s Memories and Miles event to raise money for MacIntyre's monthly Memory Cafe in Great Holm.

The event encouraged local people with learning disabilities to take part in a fully accessible one-mile route, alongside their local community to raise awareness of learning disabilities and dementia.

MacIntyre’s Memory Café provides essential support for people living with dementia and their loved ones once a month by offering a safe and inclusive space, offering unique opportunities for people with dementia to engage with local performers, animal therapy and their community.

The Memory Café takes place every 4th Tuesday of the month from 10am to 12pm in Moot Hall, Great Holm.

The event was kindly sponsored by Saxon Bridge Car Superstore and featured a donation of 200 brioches from Brioche Pasquier. Walkers were also kept hydrated thanks to a generous donation of water and fruit from Tesco Kingston in Milton Keynes.

Lorraine Devereux, Events and Corporate Fundraiser at MacIntyre said: “We had a fantastic morning, beautiful weather, the sun shone down on all our wonderful walkers, it was fantastic to see so many join us of all ages and dogs too!

"Every penny raised from our walk is reinvested straight back into our Memory Café, allowing us to continue to support as many people as possible, not only within MacIntyre but in our local community too.

"Thank you to everyone who walked and supported us in manydifferent ways, including our incredible sponsors, you helped deliver a morning to remember.”
