Milton Keynes centre donates to Supershoes charity supporting children fighting cancer

Kingston Centre has donated £1,000 to a Milton Keynes-based charity that creates unique hand-painted shoes to empower children fighting cancer.

Supershoes has a team of over 300 volunteer Super Artists who customise trainers using a specific brief given by each child. The shoes are exclusive and perfectly capture the personality of that child.

The resulting mini-masterpiece reminds the child of the things they love and who they are beyond their illness, challenges and treatments.

The volunteer-led charity, which is based at the shopping centre, has so far created bespoke Converse shoes, sourced through fashion retailer Office, for more than 3,000 children across the UK.

Sarah White, who founded Supershoes with her husband, said: “When we started Supershoes, we wanted to make each child feel special and unique, as well as raise awareness of childhood cancer. We know that each pair of shoes makes a huge difference to the wellbeing of a very poorly child.

“Donations like these are the reason we’re able to keep putting a smile on children’s faces even when they’re going through such a difficult time, and we’d like to say a massive thank you to the team at the Kingston Centre whose support has been brilliant.”

Jamie Turner, centre manager at Kingston Centre, said: “The work that the team at Supershoes does has an amazing impact on children in our community and we’re so happy to be in a position to help them continue to make a difference.

“The concept is brilliant, and the team really do help bring joy to so many families who are showing huge bravery in the face of big challenges.”
