More ‘bobbies on the beat’ thanks to Amazing CMK BID

Amazing CMK BID (Business Improvement District) has announced the commission of two additional police officers, who have been in position since May, to specifically patrol the BID area that covers Central Milton Keynes.

Funding for the officers has come from the BID via levy payers and through match-funding by Thames Valley Police. The Police Constable and Police Community Support Officer are ring-fenced to work within the BID area unless there is a wider emergency situation.

Whilst crime in the Central Milton Keynes area is low, these additional officers provide a reassuring security presence and have a specific remit to tackle business crime, anti-social behaviour, as well as aggressive and professional begging.

These appointments have already yielded success following a recent serious crime issue being reported within the BID area. A suspect was located and arrested soon after, primarily due to the new officer’s local knowledge.

BID levy payers will also benefit from crime prevention advice and business continuity measures, as well as the officers helping to make staff and visitors feel safe on the streets.

Superintendent Yvette Hitch, local policing area commander for Milton Keynes, said: “We take crimes against the many businesses we have based in central Milton Keynes seriously and I’m pleased that we are able to provide these dedicated officers to the local business owners and visitors to the town centre.

"I believe their visible presence, knowledge of the BID area and the good working relationships that they will develop with the local community, will prove to be invaluable in preventing and detecting crime in the area.”

Officers will also be sharing gathered intelligence with the BID and other partners through the Business Crime Partnership.
