Taylor Wimpey partner with Community Wood Recycling for a sustainable future

Taylor Wimpey South Midlands has partnered with Community Wood Recycling over a number of its developments to help save resources and provide work and training opportunities for disadvantaged people.

Community Wood Recycling, founded in 2003, is a network of social enterprises that collects and reuses wood waste in the most environmentally-friendly ways, creating permanent jobs and supportive training opportunities.

The process provides the opportunity to build confidence and teach new skills to those who are disadvantaged, including ex-offenders, those with mild mental health or learning difficulties and people who have come through drug and alcohol abuse.

Since March 2017 when collections began, over 193 tonnes of waste wood has been collected from Taylor Wimpey South Midlands’ Shakespeare Park development in Milton Keynes.

Now working across 13 of the Taylor Wimpey South Midlands developments, the scheme has enabled the company to ensure the environmental impact of the developments is minimised and the team are also leading the way in helping Community Wood Recycling to conserve important natural resource.

Gareth Jacob, Managing Director at Taylor Wimpey South Midlands said: “We are delighted to be able to work with the Community Wood Recycling scheme. The work they do is invaluable in helping the environment and in being able to offer disadvantaged people new opportunities.

"We’re proud to work with businesses and organisations near to our developments and it’s great to know that we are helping to make a difference in our local communities.”

As well as making a highly positive environmental impact, collecting from Shakespeare Park has created around 21 months worth of paid work and 157 days of training for local disadvantaged people.
