Tragedy for swans in Milton Keynes

The services of Swan Support were called upon this morning (Saturday) when one swan was found dead on a stretch of the Grand Union Canal in Milton Keynes, and its partner clearly in distress.

The charity travelled from Datchet to attend the incident.

"Swan Support were amazing," said Allie Short, who has spent years feeding the swans and geese in the area, and discovered the tragic scene.

"Steve and Jo from from Swan Support were fantastic, very professional and experienced, treating both birds with the utmost respect and care.

They took to the water, retrieved the dead bird, and removed the badly injured swan which has been taken to the charity's centre for treatment.

"The surviving swan is the male of the pair and he’s now on fluids and other treatment, although his condition is extremely serious and the next few hours are critical," Allie added.
