INTERVIEW: Kev Orkian shares his passion for the Willow Foundation

Kev Orkian is nearing the end of a mammoth panto run when we speak with him.

And he's been juggling his role as Idle Jack in the spectacular production of Dick Whittington at MK Theatre with the daily commute, and sleep deprivation.
It's what comes of having young twins at home. Oh, and he's moving house too.

Not a chap to take it easy, Mr Orkian.

But he's been having a gas here in the new city: "This show has been incredible," he starts, "The cast are über talented, but über fun...I'll be honest with you, I've not really enjoyed a panto like this for a long time."

And he's done panto for nigh on two decades now, so that's high praise indeed.
"It takes time to learn how to be a skilful performer in panto," he says, "It is one of the hardest regimes in British theatre..."

And Kev is as skilful as they come - an ace on all levels, whether separating eggs on stage (a most imspired break-up!), enticing kids to sing their best Pterodactyl impression to an audience of 1400 or delivering the funniest lines in the show.

And he loves panto so much, he's heading Down Under for more of the same in the summer.

But that's not the half of it. There is an Autumn stage stretch reprising his role as Dudley Moore in The (After) Life of Cook and Moore, a documentary, Armenia Uncovered on the cards and his own juggernaut of a tour, Talents of Britain, heading out around the UK for six weeks.
Talents of Britain pulls together a feast of folks from those reality shows you sit glued to of a weekend - these are the faces that stand out for their talent, truly.

And the project launches next Friday (February 10) at Milton Keynes Theatre with a special charity performance raising money for the Willow Foundation.
The charity, run by football star Bob Wilson and his wife Megs, provides special days for the seriously ill aged 16 to 40 year olds.

"They are close friends and when I saw a video explaining the work that goes into what they do, I realised the incredible process they go through to give someone a special time."

He relays a video that was 'very hard to watch' but convinced him of the need to be involved.

It concerned a young mother with terminal cancer who had never seen her two children, aged two and four, play in snow.
Willow made the dream a reality, and arranged for her gardens to be covered in snow, "...and while sitting on the rocking chair watching her kids playing in snow having a whale of a time, she passed away..." he pauses.

"...that's why I support the charity, and I am really shouting out to all of the people in Milton Keynes and beyond, and saying 'Come along, it's going to be the most incredible night!'"

"It's a variety show, and the biggest one in the UK with more than 15 acts - singers, dancers, musicians and comedians.  It is going to be a night of pure and utter talent, which is why it is called Talents of Britain.

"Milton Keynes Theatre have been very supportive and I am hoping we will get a full house and everyone will come along and support it."

> Joining Kev at Milton Keynes Theatre will be Paul Burling, Ana & Fia Almanda, Matthew Crane, Becky O'Brien, Mike Osman, Lydia Lucy and Richard Forbes.
