Matilda the Musical: What you need to know!

Matilda is continuing to wow audiences at Milton Keynes Theatre, and as Miss Honey continues to charm, Miss Trunchbull continues to bully and the little lady the show is named after continues to shine, we thought we'd dig around for some fascinating facts about the show.

And there are plenty of them!  Eyes down...

> Matilda has now been seen by more than six and a half million people, and more than 70 girld have played the title role worldwide.

>The show has won 85 major awards - including 16 for Best Musical


> Every year the production uses 8,320 balloons and 105 metres of balloon elastic help the production soar!


> There are 3,780 paper aeroplanes flown into the auditorium each year - every one is a written school report.


> Miss Honey and Matilda enjoy a cup of real hot tea on stage every performance, complete with milk and a biscuit. They indulge during the song, My House.


> The production also gets through more than 100 tubs of tasty chocolate spread every year.


> The voice over commentary you hear in the production is actually voiced by the musical's writer, Dennis Kelly


> The Crunchem Hall School badge that features on the children's blazers was designed by cartoonist and writer Quentin Blake

> 28,000 pieces of confetti are used in every performance, which means that since the show opened in the West End, more than 60 million 'bits' have fallen

> Celebrities have flocked to view the musical - among the many, many stars who have been scared by Miss Trunchbull are Alice Cooper, Bono, Brian May, David Walliams, Graham Norton, Helena Bonham Carter, Jack Black, Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber, Phillip Schofield, Paul McCartney, Stephen Hawking and Russell Brand.
