Tightened security in place for The Bodyguard's return to Milton Keynes

Fall for the ultimate romantic thriller when The Bodyguard visits Milton Keynes Theatre, from tomorrow (Monday, May 29) until Saturday (June 3), writes Georgina Butler.

The award-winning musical is based on the 1992 film, which starred Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner.

It premiered in the West End in 2012, had a sell-out tour, returned to the West End in 2016, then had a second sell-out tour. It has also achieved international success.

Safe to say, it seems that fans – of the film, of the songs, of Whitney – have plenty of love for this show!

Superstar singer and actress Rachel Marron is being pursued by a deranged stalker, whose level of obsession has escalated to disturbing threats.

But she has a career to focus on, a lifestyle to maintain and no desire to step out of the spotlight. Enter former Secret Service agent turned professional bodyguard Frank Farmer, who is hired to protect her.

He has three rules to follow: never let her out of your sight, never let your guard down, never fall in love.
Each expects to be in charge – what they don’t expect is to fall in love.

The Bodyguard returns theatregoers to a moment in time when Whitney (queen of the powerhouse ballad who was nicknamed ‘The Voice’) ruled the airwaves.

The show, which incorporates the film’s soundtrack and adds bonus songs, features many of her greatest hits. ‘One Moment In Time’, ‘Saving All My Love’, ‘Run To You’, ‘I Have Nothing’, ‘Greatest Love Of All’, ‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody’ and ‘I Will Always Love You’ are among those included.

This latest production stars Melody Thornton (The Pussycat Dolls) as Rachel Marron and Ayden Callaghan (Emmerdale, Hollyoaks) as Frank Farmer. Note that Melody Thornton will perform the role of ‘Rachel’ at evening performances only.
Queens (and kings) of the night unite. The Bodyguard is likely to be a winner with Whitney fans who want to be entertained.

Running time: Approximately 2 hours 11 minutes, including one interval.

The Bodyguard is at Milton Keynes Theatre from Monday 29 May to Saturday 3 June.
